Keep Your Natural Stone Looking Fabulous

You spent time and money to bring natural stone into your home. And you want to make sure it stays gorgeous.  Here are some easy guidelines:
  • Use coasters, especially for alcoholic or acidic drinks.
  • Many natural stones withstand heat, but the use of trivets and mats is recommended.
  • Clean all stone surfaces with a PH neutral cleaner, mild liquid dishwashing detergent, or natural stone soap.  A little of any of these goes a long way. Many supermarket kitchen and bathroom cleaners are acidic and not suitable for natural stone.
  • Use a clean rag mop for floors, changing the rinse water often. A soft cloth, such as microfiber, works well for counters and other surfaces.
  • Dust mop interior floors regularly. Sand, dirt, and grit are abrasive and can damage floors.
  • Dry excess water around faucets to avoid hard water buildup. Use a squeegee in bathroom areas. When necessary, use a non-acidic soap scum remover.
  • Avoid vinegar, lemon, and other high acidic based products.
  • Avoid bleach and ammonia, and other harsh high alkaline based products.
  • Avoid abrasive powders or creams.  They are not PH neutral and the abrasives may scratch some natural stones.
  • Simple, safe, environmentally friendly products work best for the care and maintenance of your Natural Stone.
